The preparation offered to parents seeking to have their newborns baptised can vary considerably. This parish has devised a number of sessions that bring together contemporary needs and Gospel values Baptism is ... “the sacrament of that faith by which, enlightened by the grace of the Holy Spirit, we respond to the Gospel of Christ.” This intriguing sentence is found in the Roman Ritual’s “General Introduction to Christian Initiation”. In our parish baptism preparation, we ask people why they are asking for baptism for their child, but no one has ever ventured to use this as their reply. They are more likely to say, “We are Catholic and we want our child to be Catholic”, or “We want to pass on good values to our child” or even, &ldquo
