Family affair

Liverpool parishes are finding that the most effective catechesis for children is by working hand in hand with parents. The response to the archdiocesan programme has been overwhelmingOctober sees the eagerly awaited Vatican synod on the family. Whatever the outcomes of the synod, one thing remains absolute: it is in the family that parents (and grandparents) have the greatest influence in the passing on of the faith. Catechists, teachers and clergy cannot replace the role of the parents in this task. In the Archdiocese of Liverpool, we describe family catechesis as “a method of catechesis that supports the domestic Church by assisting parents in leading their own children in the lifelong call to holiness within the community of the Church”.
