Royal under the radar
First, you had scientists and archaeologists working together following the discovery of the skeleton of King Richard III in a car park in Leicester in 2012. Now, the BBC reports that investigators are using ground-penetrating radar at Reading Abbey in a bid to uncover the high altar where King Henry I is buried.

The Ministry of Justice has applied to dig 12 pits on the site as part of the Hidden Abbey Project. It hopes to find the remains of the son of William the Conqueror, who founded Reading Abbey in 1121. It was partly destroyed during the dissolution of the monasteries under Henry VIII in 1538, and there is no accurate record of what happened to Henry I’s remains. He died in France in 1135 but it is believed his body was sent back to the abbey for burial. The survey is the first detailed investigation at the Abbey in more than 150 years.
