Shadows of agony
A priest in Essex has discovered a depiction of Calvary hidden in plain sight in his parish church.

When he removed an old tapestry from the wall of Our Lady of Ransom church in Rayleigh, Fr Paul Fox discovered that when sunlight hit the crucifix suspended above the altar it cast the shadows of two other crucifixes onto the wall behind. The shadows had been hidden for years, absorbed by the tapestry.

The church featured in a new segment on BBC Radio Essex called My Church’s USP (unique selling point).
