Seeing red over Christian persecution
The iconic Trevi Fountain in Rome, where lovers Marcello and Sylvia cavort in Fellini’s film La Dolce Vita, is to be dyed red for an evening for the first time in history as part of a stunt to draw attention to the murder of Christians in the Middle East.

Christian organisations including Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), the Focolare Movement, the Community of Sant’Egidio and the Christian Workers have come together to support the event (pictured in an artist’s impression above) on 29 April.

The evening will be opened by the president of ACN, Cardinal Mauro Piacenza. “Against the backdrop of the magnificent Roman fountain, you can call for a lasting and concrete reaction, so that persecuted people can enjoy their right to religious freedom,” ACN said.
