Search for the hero
Baroness Patricia Scotland, who was welcomed as the new Commonwealth Secretary-General at a ceremony in London on Monday, will have come away inspired. The event – with guests including Lord (Peter) Mandelson, Cherie Booth QC and Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor – opened with a performance of Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World” and closed with a live rendition of “Search for the Hero” by Heather Small (pictured), the lead singer of 1990s band M People.

Lady Scotland, a Catholic who was born in Dominica, served as Attorney General in Gordon Brown’s Government and headed the National Catholic Safeguarding Commission for England and Wales (NCSC) until December 2011. In January, she joined politicians from Dominica on a trip to Rome to meet Pope Francis.
