During an interview with the real-life journalists whose story is told in the film Spotlight (scene above), Newsnight presenter Evan Davis claimed that The Boston Globe exposed the scandal of paedophile Catholic priests in the US.In fact, the scandal was exposed by The National Catholic Reporter in June 1985, with a news story by Jason Berry reporting on abuse in Louisiana.Tom Fox, publisher of the NCR and editor at the time, told us it was disconcerting to hear people claim the Globe broke the story. “Unfortunately it was the defining story of my editorship. If only the bishops had listened,” he added.The Times of Acadiana, in Lafayette, Louisiana, also reported on the abuse leading to some prominent Catholics organising an advertising boycott of the paper to put it out
