So is it really all over for Heythrop College? The institution announced its plans to close in June following months of uncertainty. Now some people are wondering whether there is still a vestige of hope that the Jesuit-run college, which is part of the University of London, may not close in 2018 after all. Fr Adolfo Nicolás, Secretary General of the Jesuits, is known to be worried about the loss of the Bellarmine Institute based at Heythrop, the only English-speaking formation centre for the order in Europe. Jesuit scholastics can study both for a pontifical and a secular degree at Heythrop, something highly prized by the order.
