German football club Bayern Munich has delivered on a promise made at a private audience last year to donate the proceeds of a friendly match to charitable causes of Pope Francis’ choosing. The club presented a €1 million cheque to Archbishop Georg Gänswein at Allianz Arena in Munich before the Audi Cup final against Real Madrid. Gänswein, head of the papal household and a “born Bayern fan”, has said he keeps his fingers crossed for his favourite team. Ben
