An offer extended to me in 2012, “would the Catholics like to use Stonegrave Minster on occasion?”, has resulted in two Masses for Christian Unity in this historical Anglican minster, one in each of the last two years, authorised by the Archbishop of York, the Ampleforth Anglican Benefice, and by the Middlesbrough Diocese.  On both occasions a Catholic Mass was celebrated with a strong Anglican presence, and indeed Anglican participation, yet on both occasions it has been necessary to deny participation in the Eucharist to non-Catholics who had chosen to attend and pray “ut omnes unum sint”.
