One of the battles likely to take place following the Synod on the Family in October will be over how it is reported. During last year’s, the media narrative had the progressives in the ascendency at first, only to be dashed by the conservatives. In order to prepare themselves for the media-perception battle, the annual meeting of general secretaries of bishops’ conferences in Europe toward the end of June is overlapping with that of spokespersons. The idea is to coordinate the bishops’ conferences’ responses to the synod while at the same time try to communicate the synod itself in their respective countries. To help them plan the task, Fr Federico Lombardi, the Holy See’s spokesman, will attend both meetings, which are taking place in Prague, Czech Republic
