Fr Denis Hall was such an avid supporter of West Ham United that on one occasion before a match the club’s announcer asked him to return to church as “the bride and groom are waiting”.In honour of Fr Denis, who died earlier this year at the age of 73, West Ham carried a tribute in their match programme last Saturday (they beat Burnley 1-0). It was the fiftieth anniversary of West Ham winning the European Cup Winners’ Cup, the same year that Fr Denis was ordained a priest
