A canoe is to sit alongside the boxes in the removal van transporting the possessions of the soon-to-be-installed Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham from London to his new diocese. Bishop Paul Williams, who has been the Area Bishop of Kensington in the Diocese of London, is a keen canoeist and until now has stored his Canadian-built canoe in the garden of his episcopal residence, Dial House, an elegant Georgian building conveniently located on the banks of the River Thames. He told us he is planning to store the canoe in the garage of his new home, Bishop’s Manor, in Southwell and hopes to be able to use it there soon. “We’re not far from the River Trent – it’s four or five miles away,” he explained. “The early mission of the Church in this nation
