Cool head in the debate


 
It involved seven political leaders and a heckler, and was watched by millions of viewers: last Thursday’s general election debate was a high-pressure occasion. Keeping a cool head throughout, however, was the debate’s chairwoman, ITV News anchorwoman Julie Etchingham. The former Sky News presenter has never forgotten that she owes one of her early forays in journalism to the Church. In 1991, aged 21, she was sent to World Youth Day in Czestochowa, Poland, led by Pope John Paul II, as a media officer for her home parish and the Diocese of Nottingham in order to write an article for the diocese’s yearbook.
