Absent once again


 
Bishop Mark Davies of Shrewsbury, who did not attend the ordination of the first female bishop in the Church of England, was again a no-show at her installation ceremony in Chester Cathedral.But, in contrast to her ordination, there was at least some Catholic representation at the installation of Bishop Libby Lane of Stockport, in the shape of Canon Stephen Coonan, Bishop Davies’ ecumenism representative.It is normal for there to be official representation from the Catholic Church at the installation of Church of England bishops. Meanwhile, in Finland, the Orthodox Metropolitan Ambrosius of Helsinki took the bold step of inviting the first female Lutheran bishop in Finland, Irja Askola, to the altar during an ordination on Sunday.  His gesture has, though, sparked controversy,
