Her interviewing style is an institution and she has talked to everyone from President Obama to Michael Jackson on her famous sofa. Recently, however, Oprah Winfrey’s interviews have had a more Catholic feel, especially on her programme, Super Soul Sunday, with two of the American Church’s best-known spiritual writers. Last month it was the Franciscan Fr Richard Rohr, a popular speaker and retreat giver who runs a centre for contemplation, and last week it was Sr Joan Chittister. For the programme, the Benedictine nun, campaigner and author, who is providing The Tablet’s Lenten meditations this year, sat with Winfrey not on a sofa but outside on wicker chairs surrounded by trees.
