This year, 2015, is a special year for The Tablet as it marks 175 years since the birth of the publication – a 16-page issue dated 16 May 1840. This makes us one of the oldest continually published weekly journals in Britain (along with The Spectator) and to mark the anniversary we have planned a series of events. On 16 May a thanksgiving Mass will take place at Westminster Cathedral, celebrated by the Archbishop of Cardiff, George Stack. In Ireland, on 17 June, another Mass will be celebrated by the Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin. Other events include a two-day literary festival at Birmingham Civic Library on 19 and 20 June and a piano recital on 23 October at the Barbican in London, which will feature the premiere of Stephen Hough’s “Tablet” sonata, especi
