After being silenced by the Vatican for 30 years, the liberation theologian and former Franciscan priest Leonardo Boff is, The Tablet understands, now advising Pope Francis on the drafting of his next encyclical.The Pope’s message will centre on the environment and social justice, something in which Boff has become an expert – in 1992 he attended the Rio Earth Summit despite moves from the Vatican to stop him from doing so.
