After overseeing one large media operation, Lord Patten of Barnes is hard at work seeking to reform another, as the former chairman of the BBC Trust is now in charge of a committee looking at Vatican communications. He is also a trustee of The Tablet and told us his 11-member group will have completed its work by Easter, which falls on 5 April next year. It has been tasked with helping the Holy See respond to changes in the media as well as making cost savings. Many are suggesting the latter will be found in Vatican Radio – which broadcasts programmes in 44 languages.
