In the new film The Vatican Museums in 3D, to be shown in simultaneous screenings in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 18 November, viewers can admire – through special goggles – the Vatican’s sculptures of the Belvedere Torso and the Augustus of Prima Porta seemingly close enough to touch. Made with the collaboration of the Holy See, the movie also uses software to give two-dimensional works, including Michelangelo’s Last Judgement, the illusion of extra recession. I
