The Indian Government might have declared Mother Teresa as a “Bharat Ratna” (“Jewel of India”) in her lifetime, but it has decided that it does not have sufficient resources to sponsor the university chair it instituted in her memory.The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) – the largest university in the world with more than three million students – has decided to scrap the Mother Teresa chair in the school of social work launched in 2010 to mark the centenary of her birth.
