The church hierarchy can expect a lighter mailbag following the news that Daphne McLeod, the chairwoman of Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice, is retiring after 20 years. McLeod, a former head teacher, consistently argued that the teaching of the faith in Catholic schools was inadequate and in 2006 published a booklet “Will your grandchildren be Catholic?”.“Daphne will remain on the committee but at the age of 85 has decided to hang up her boxing gloves,” the latest edition of “The Flock”, the group’s newsletter, states. McLeod – who encouraged her members to write letters of complaint to the hierarchy in England and Wales as well as to Rome – was opposed to the Masses for gay and lesbian Catholics which used to take place in Soho, central Lond
