English-born Bishop Richard Williamson, who was expelled from the ultra-traditionalist Society of St Pius X (SSPX) in 2012 for challenging the society’s leaders, has founded a new “Priestly Union of Marcel Lefebvre” in France for priests who leave the SSPX. He said such “resistants” opposed what he called the SSPX’s gradual acceptance of the Second Vatican Council.France Fidèle, a website under his moral authority, reports that the group was formed on 15 July at a Dominican monastery in the Loire region of western France but gave no details of its membership.
