Congratulations to Tablet columnist Br Guy Consolmagno, who has won the Carl Sagan medal, a prestigious scientific award for those who communicate astronomy to the public. The American-born Jesuit is based at the Vatican Observatory in Castel Gandolfo, the papal summer residence, and was awarded the prize by the American Astronomical Society’s division for planetary sciences. The citation records that Br Guy “has a decades-long track record of communicating planetary science to the public while maintaining an active science career”. This includes appearances on the BBC, six books, including Turn Left at Orion, now in its fourth edition, and delivering between up to 50 lectures a year across Europe and the US.
