Saints that unite


 
WHILE CATHOLICS across the world will celebrate the feast of St John XXIII on 22 October, other Churches already have him in their liturgical calendars. The Anglican Communion, the Episcopal Church of America and the Anglican Church of Canada commemorate “Good Pope John” on 4 June and each year he is also honoured by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America at around the same time. Ecumenism, of course, is seen as one of the legacies of John XXIII through his calling of the Second Vatican Council which led to better relations between the Catholic Church and other Christians. Another Catholic cleric, Archbishop Oscar Romero, is venerated by the Anglican Communion and the Lutherans on 24 March. It may not be too long before Catholics themselves can venerate the former Archbish
