An unlikely witness appeared last week for the defence in the long-running News of the World phone-hacking trial at the Central Criminal Court in London. Former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey of Clifton took the stand at the Old Bailey as a character witness for Stuart Kuttner, the former managing editor at the defunct Sunday newspaper accused of conspiracy to hack phones, which he denies.
