Sacred and profane


 
FRANCE’S SOCIALIST leaders are slowly getting better – or at least quicker – at denouncing radical protests against the Catholic Church. Within hours of the discovery of anarchist slogans sprayed across the entrance to the Sacré Coeur basilica overlooking Paris, Interior Minister Manuel Valls, Mayor Bertrand Delanoë and his deputy Anne Hidalgo all denounced the landmark’s profanation. Valls called it “an offence to the Catholic faithful”.
