HERIE BLAIR has been a regular on the circuit of major Catholic events in recent weeks. On 28 January, the wife of the former Prime Minister travelled to Plymouth for the installation of Mark O’Toole as the new bishop. Then she flew to Rome to be among those at last month’s ceremony where Archbishop Vincent Nichols was made a cardinal by Pope Francis. Dressed in black, she sat next to Lady (Carla) Powell, the Italy-based wife of former adviser to Margaret Thatcher, Lord (Charles) Powell. On both occasions, Mrs Blair was without her husband, who was received into the Church in 2007. On Sunday, however, the Blairs were together for Mass at Westminster Cathedral celebrated by Cardinal Nichols. They sat close to the front and behind Lord and Lady (Charles) Guthrie. Field Marshal G
