It might have been too much to have expected to see him riding it around the Vatican, so Pope Francis is selling one of the two Harley-Davidsons given to him last June to mark the motorcycle manufacturer’s 110th anniversary. In November, the Pope signed the tank of the bike, which came with the gift of a leather jacket. All funds raised from the sale of the 1,585cc machine – a Dyna Super Glide with an estimated value of around £12,000 – will go to Caritas Roma. The sale will be overseen next month by Bonhams auction house in Paris. The charity hopes to use some of the funds to renovate the Don Luigi di Liegro hostel and soup kitchen at Rome’s Termini railway station, which provides shelter and food for over 1,000 people a day.
