Thanks to the efforts of a former banker, the Catholic Directory is publishing a statistical table that includes the latest figures on Mass attendance, clergy numbers, marriages and baptisms in its next edition.Sr Catherine Wybourne OSB, the editor of the 2014 Catholic Directory of England and Wales, last year decided to omit the table because she had been concerned “for some time” about the lack of consistency in the figures from one year to the next.Sr Catherine told us that this year every one of the bishops had given her up-to-date information about their dioceses, which when brought together will give an accurate statistical picture of the state of the Church in England and Wales.
