Pope Francis has a new fan – Jonathon Porritt. The environmental campaigner was so taken by the Pope’s remarks on the economy in Evangelii Gaudium that he raised the recent apostolic exhortation on BBC Radio 4’s Any Questions? last week. Mr Porritt contrasted the Pope’s remarks with those made a couple of days earlier by the mayor of London, Boris Johnson, who in the annual Margaret Thatcher lecture argued that greed was an important spur for economic growth.Vehemently disagreeing with the London mayor, Mr Porritt said: “So I have a mad vision: I want to put Boris in the blue corner and Pope Francis in the red corner, because Pope Francis gave an amazing speech the other day.
