NI bishops state opposition to gay marriage


The Catholic Bishops of Northern Ireland have written an open letter to the members of the Northern Ireland Assembly calling for the rejection of a motion to legalise same-sex marriage.

Led by Cardinal Seán Brady, Archbishop of Armagh, the six bishops have written to protest against the motion proposed by Sinn Fein, the third of its kind in the past 18 months. The letter states: “It is a fact of nature that same-sex unions are fundamentally and objectively different from the complementary sexual union of a woman and a man which is of itself naturally open to life.”
