Hart demands ‘fair play’ over CatholicCare’s work for children

Archbishop Denis Hart of Melbourne has urged the Victorian Parliament to provide an exemption for the Catholic adoption service, CatholicCare, as MPs debate legislation to permit the adoption of children by same-sex couples, writes Mark Brolly.

The Catholic position on marriage and family held that the well-being of the community and children were best served when they experienced the love of both a mother and father in a secure and stable relationship, Hart said. New South Wales had provided such an exemption.
He appealed for “fair play” to ensure that the many children who benefited from CatholicCare’s outstanding work were not disadvantaged.
