Cardinal Vincent Nichols has announced he will be hosting a major conference on human trafficking in Rome later this year.
The recently created cardinal told a press conference on Monday that he would be hosting the event in an effort to raise awareness of the issue.
The conference is to take place on 9 and 10 April and will be attended by church leaders and 20 police chiefs from across the world.
He told journalists at the English College in Rome that the conference would focus on practical co-operation between the Church on the ground and law enforcement agencies to "counter the scourge" of the trafficking of people for money.
The Church in England and Wales has been active in working against human trafficking.
