Liberalisation ‘will be resisted’

Poland’s Catholic bishops have pledged to resist any liberalisation of Catholic teaching at next month’s Synod on the Family and rejected calls for a rethink on marriage, divorce and homosexuality, writes Jonathan Luxmoore.

 “Jesus Christ presents marriage as a bond between man and a woman, who are united in love for their whole life and open to the gift of new existence,” the Bishops’ Conference said in a pre-synod statement on Monday. “This is why sacramental marriage is by nature indissoluble.”
