Development ‘undermined’ by globalisation


Globalisation is undermining efforts to reduce poverty, the Holy See’s representative to the UN told a key financing conference in Addis Ababa last week, writes Abigail Frymann Rouch.

Archbishop Bernardito Auza, the permanent observer of the Holy See, said some countries have “fallen further behind and may continue to do so unless the international community helps”. Speaking in the Ethiopian capital at the International Conference on Financing for Development, he said:  “The solutions to global poverty and hunger cannot be left to market forces alone.”
