New organisation to preserve Chaldean identity

A “Chaldean League” has been founded at a recent conference in Erbil, Iraq, to safeguard and promote the Chaldean identity through seminars, language courses and cultural initiatives.

The new organisation is supported by Patriarch Louis Sako, the Archbishop of Baghdad and head of the Chaldean Catholic Church. Its first president is Safah Sabah Hindi, a Chaldean Iraqi who emigrated to Switzerland. With them at the 1-3 July conference were Chaldean bishops and priests, plus Chaldean laity from Iraq and the Chaldean communities of the diaspora. The Chaldean League seeks to “preserve our social, political and cultural rights”.
