Plea to nuncio on sex-education row

Thousands of Ontario Catholic parents have signed a nine-page letter to Archbishop Luigi Bonazzi pleading with him to intervene and assist in the fashioning of a church response to the proposed sex-education curriculum in the province, writes Peter Kavanagh. The parents feel “abandoned in the middle of the growing struggle to uphold our Roman Catholic faith”, the letter said.

The parents are part of a province-wide protest that has seen thousands of students kept out of class as a protest against a proposed curriculum that “prompts” teachers to include teaching nine-year-olds about homosexuality and 13-year-olds about anal sex.

Catholic schools are allowed to use a “Catholic lens” that some claim allows only for a degree of skirting around these issues.
