Mobsters ‘are not Christians’, declares Pope


MEMBERS OF the Mafia are not entitled to call themselves Christian, according to Pope Francis, writes Hannah Roberts.

Speaking to pilgrims from the Calabrian town of Cassano del Jonio, which is under the sway of the ’Ndrangheta crime syndicate, Francis condemned those who adopt “a lifestyle of lawlessness” and called on mobsters to convert. A silent war has broken out between Francis and the syndicates since he excommunicated Mafia members last year.
