East London homeless centre under threat


A CATHOLIC charity for the homeless may be forced to close down its rough-sleeper centre following a withdrawal of support by the London Borough of Newham, writes Paul Donovan.

East London-based Anchor House set up an assessment centre in Stratford that takes rough sleepers of the streets with the help of a £150,000 government grant. Now the Government channels such funding through local authorities and Newham failed to support the project.

Newham Council said it valued Anchor House’s work but had seen cuts to the council’s budget.
