Choudary seizes on Pope’s words


Hate preacher Anjem Choudary has used the Pope’s words to try to justify killing, writes Hannah Roberts. Last week, the Pope said in the context of the Islamist terrorist attack on the Charlie Hebdo offices that if someone affronted his mother they could expect a punch. On Italian television, London-based Choudary said: “Even the Pope said if you insult my mother, expect a punch … [But offence to Muhammad merits] the death sentence.” The Pope condemned the Paris attacks as “against God”.
