Warsi urges PM to 'seriously consider' military action to save Iraq’s minorities

Baroness (Sayeeda) Warsi called for David Cameron to “seriously consider” authorising targeted military action to save the lives of religious minorities driven from their homes by jihadists in northern Iraq, writes Abigail Frymann Rouch.

Baroness Warsi, who resigned her government ministerial roles this month over what she called the Government’s “morally indefensible” approach to the conflict in Gaza, said she was “not advocating boots on the ground” but said Britain should offer the US “whatever support is necessary” to the thousands of displaced Christians and Yazidis.

Writing for The Tablet website, the peer, who opposed the 2003 invasion of Iraq, said of the Islamic State’s atrocities: “There’s a sense in which we should have seen it coming.”
