Francis prays for victims of theatre collapse

Pope Francis has sent a message of sympathy to people injured when part of the ceiling of the Apollo Theatre in London’s West End collapsed in the middle of a performance.

The Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Antonio Mennini, told the Archbishop of Westminster that the Pope was praying for victims of the accident and their families.

He told Archbishop Vincent Nichols: “While thanking God that there seem to have been no fatalities, the Holy Father would like to assure you of his prayers for all those persons who have been injured, as well as for their relations and friends. May the Lord bring comfort and healing to all whose lives have been touched by this sad event.”

Part of the Apollo’s domed ceiling collapsed in following heavy rain on Thursday evening, during a production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. Up to 80 people were injured.
