Cardinal Burke’s petition against reform gains 1/4m signatures

A petition inspired by Cardinal Raymond Burke that urges Pope Francis not to alter church teaching on at October’s Synod on the Family has gained 228,000 signatures.

The “filial appeal” (www.filialappeal.org) expresses the fear that the Church could accept adultery if Francis allowed civilly remarried Catholics to receive Communion, and warns that gay unions, which last year’s synod explored ways of accommodating, “are contrary to divine and natural law”. Signatories include three cardinals and 20 bishops as well as pro-family organisations.
