The Catholic bishops of England and Wales have congratulated the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their second child on Saturday.
In a letter sent to Kensington Palace, Cardinal Vincent Nichols, president of the bishops’ conference, said the birth of Princess Charlotte of Cambridge “will be a source of joy not only for the Royal Family but for the peoples of the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and beyond.”
He assured the Duke and Duchess of the prayers and best wishes of the Catholic Church in England and Wales for their baby daughter, and invoked the blessing of Christ and the intercessions of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Joseph for the family.
