Child porn possession among Vatican crimes recorded last year

Two cases of possession of child pornography were among dozens of crimes committed within the Vatican last year, the state’s chief prosecutor has revealed.

Gian Piero Milano, the Holy See’s Promoter of Justice, produced his report for 2014, which revealed the extent of criminal activity in the heart of the Church.

Disgraced former papal nuncio Josef Wesolowski, was one of those facing charges, a Vatican spokesman said. Wesolowski, the former papal envoy to the Dominican Republic, was arrested last year after being accused of abusing penniless teenage shoe-shine boys. The other accused was not named.

Other crimes in the report included three drug deliveries addressed to the Vatican intercepted last year. One consisted of a packet of condoms filled with liquid cocaine, worth €40,000 (£30,000), addressed to the Vatican post office, the prosecutor said. No one came forward to claim it.
