Tartaglia returns home after suffering heart attack

The Archbishop of Glasgow, Philip Tartaglia, arrived home in Scotland yesterday evening after suffering a heart attack in Spain last week.

He travelled with the other Scottish bishops, with whom he had been undertaking a week of formation at the Royal Scots College in Salamanca last week before suffering the heart attack.

He is now expected to undergo a period of convalescence.

The 64-year-old archbishop yesterday thanked staff at University Hospital in Salamanca, as well as staff at the College, his fellow bishops, and lay Catholics in Scotland.

Parishes in the archdiocese were informed of the illness and special prayers were said this weekend for his recovery.

The archbishop’s brother, Canon Gerard Tartaglia, flew out to Spain late last week to be with him.
