Rector of Beda College takes up visiting professorship at St Mary’s


Mgr Roderick StrangeA theologian and expert on Blessed John Henry Newman has been appointed a Visiting Professor at St Mary’s University, in Twickenham, south-west London.

Mgr Roderick Strange takes up his new position later this month and will continue to be Rector of the Pontifical Beda College, Rome, where he has served for 17 years.

He is known for his books John Henry Newman: A Mind Alive and The Catholic Faith. He writes for The Times on faith and is an elected fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

A seminarian contemporary of Cardinal Vincent Nichols at the English College, Rome, and a former Catholic chaplain to Oxford University Mgr Strange has in the past been tipped as a future bishop.

St Mary’s University has also recently appointed as visiting professors Cherie Blair, the leading barrister and wife of the former Prime Minister, and Mary McAleese, the former President of Ireland.
