Cherie Blair has been appointed as a visiting Law professor at St Mary’s University, Twickenham.
The leading human rights barrister will deliver a series of lectures next year to mark the Catholic university’s 165th anniversary.
Ms Blair, wife of the former Prime Minister Tony Blair, is chairman of the international law firm Omnia Strategy and was a founding member of Matrix Chambers.
She is a former Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University and current Chancellor of the Asian University for Women in Bangladesh.
St Mary’s has recently been awarded full university status and was founded in 1850.
Speaking of her appointment she said: “I am honoured to accept the role of Visiting Professor at St Mary’s. I know the University attracts ambitious young people and I look forward to getting to know them during my visits and passing on the benefit of my knowledge and experience. This is a great opportunity for me to help encourage the next generation.”
Francis Campbell, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, added: “We welcome Cherie into the St Mary’s family with open arms. Cherie very much shares the values we hold at St Mary’s – a commitment to high standards and a dedication to helping others.”
