The Vatican’s Cricket Club will tonight celebrate a Mass in memory of Phil Hughes, the 25-year-old Australian cricketer tragically killed in an accident last week.
The Mass, organised by the St Peter’s Cricket Club, was due to be held at the Venerable English College in Rome at 6pm.
It will be celebrated by the team captain, Fr Anthony Currer.
The young Test and International cricketer was knocked unconscious by a ball during a match in Sydney. Its impact caused a vertebral artery dissection that led to a lethal haemorrhage.
In a message today a spokesman for the Pontifical Council for Culture, said the Mass would be held in memory of Mr Hughes “and all in sports whose deaths seem to us untimely”.
